What do we perceive as manly and masculine? MAN SHAPE REVISED 2019 toys with the theme of manliness, whilst balancing actions and perceptions.  The performance first emerged in 2011 as solo for male dancer Daniel Racek. It makes a comeback in 2019 in an expanded double solo first for a man, then for woman. The leitmotiv thus not merely includes our perception of male characteristics, but also those of a woman – and their overlap.

ME-SA emerged in 2008. It is an open platform combining original authors’ projects and inviting visiting choreographers from Czecho-Slovak and wider international dance scene. With the project Much More Than Nothing by the choreographer duo Peter Šavel / Stano DobáI, ME-SA was first included among the Priority Companies within the Aerowaves network in 2013. The company received three nominations for the Dance Production of the Year. In 2015, one of the ME-SA founders, Martina Hajdyla Lacová, received the Dancer of the Year award for her solo production SuperNaturals, another project of the company that is on the prestigious Aerowaves list. Martina was also nominated for the 2016 Thalia Prize for her performance in the solo show L - One of the Seven. ME-SA regularly present their projects on prestigious festivals, such as Spring Forward, DANCE PRAGUE, Czech Dance Platform, APAP / NYC.

KAREN FOSS was born in Vancouver by Norwegian parents. The family returned to Norway in 1964, and Karen trained in dance. She was first  trained in classical ballet-technique and ballet pedagogy at the Norwegian Opera Ballet School. She attended a professional programme offered by Winnipeg Ballet School, and trained also in modern dance. Havign studied and worked in Norway, Canada and NYC She has worked as a dancer freelance in Norway since 1983. She was artistic director at Østgøtaballetten in 1995 – 1996  and at Carte Blanche AS in 1997 – 2001. Her extensive performative experience in contemporary dance includes work with, amongst others, Kjetil Skøien/Passage Nord, Kjersti Alveberg/NRK, Lise Ferner/Hexakin, Min Tanaka/BBT, Anzu Furukawa, Un Magrit Nordseth/Scirocco, Øyvind Jørgensen/ zakraz, Ingun Bjørnsgaard /zakraz (Now IBP), Ina Christel Johannessen/Scirocco (Now zvc). Sicne 2001 she produces her  own work through karen foss Quiet Works (kfQW), Her pedagogical engagements include teaching dance technique, creative dancework and dance history to amateurs. Her creative work and choreography in kfQW is characterised by poetics rich in associative powers and by complimentary filmatic imagery. A smoldering undercurrent runs through the work. The dance, light design and music is tightly interwoven, and supposes theatrical spaces ordinarily equipped technically. Karen is also author of her own texts.

Join us for post-performance discussion with the production teams of 21&COUNTING and MAN SHAPE REVISED 2019, and for afterparty with AID KID (CZ).
